We are a community of individuals and families committed to finding and developing contextually appropriate solutions (self-sustaining) to existing problems in developing communities.
Our Purpose: To assist and empower those who live in extreme poverty.
Our Mission: That the health and quality of lives of people in communities are sustainably improved.
Our Means: By increasing life capacity through the extrapolation and expansion of existing knowledge and development of the application of contextually appropriate technological solutions; and further perpetuating these solutions through the development of community based educational training opportunities.
Our Appropriate Technologies: We are a technology development group committed to assisting underprivileged communities’ transition from food, clean air and water vulnerability into long-term security through education and technological development.
Our Approach: We are humanitarians engaged in field research where we live. Ongoing dialogue and interaction with those we serve keeps us focused and connected to the realities and challenges of developing communities and to the uniqueness of the context in which they live. We not only want the realities of the vulnerable to inform how we design our technologies, but to also keep us properly motivated and shape who were are and how we live our lives. We strive to gain a greater understanding of the nuances of culture, customs, social and economic realities of those we are trying to empower. We rely heavily on the experience and expertise of those who have lived and are currently living in these communities, including other organizations who work in the field.
Although we intervene in crisis situations on occasion, our primary focus is community development through a capacity building approach that empowers communities with skills, abilities, processes and resources to change their own future. Our efforts are primarily – but not exclusively – devoted to ensuring communities have:
(1) Clean air to breath
(2) Nutrient-rich foods to eat
(3) Clean Water to drink

Our Strategic Partnerships: We leverage our impact through strategic partnerships – empowering already effective and collaborative domestic and international humanitarian organizations with our “open source” solutions for distribution to vulnerable communities. This mobilizes our technologies beyond our immediate reach to those who need them, and ensures that adequate training and follow-up is provided at the local level, ensuring sustainability.
Our Structure: Contextual Solutions has been established as a Panamanian (humanitarian-philanthropic) foundation an American 501. c3 non-profit organization exclusively devoted to empowering the underprivileged toward greater self-sufficiency (non-dependency) and self-sustainability (eco-friendly appropriate technologies). We are also committed to partnering with, and supporting like-minded individuals and groups around the world.
Our Funding: All funds received will be used exclusively for projects. The leadership team supports themselves by means other than Contextual Solutions funding. All funds received will be used as requested by the donors. We will, on occasion, be requesting funds for specific project initiatives. You can make a donation toward any of our projects by clicking here. We are a registered 501(c)(3) in the state of California.
Our Invitation: If you are considering re-setting your life to devote more time and resources to become part of an incredible story of compassion happening all over the world, take it from us – it is worth it. If you’re out there right now, anywhere in the world, or you’re thinking about it, contact us and tell us your story. We extend an invitation for you to join the Contextual Solutions online community.
